Although Venice offers you lots of possibilities for shopping, it shall not be the main aim of your citybreak Venice. Venice is not like other Italian cities, as Milan and Rome, heaven on earth for shopping. But that doesn´t mean shopping in Venice can´t be fun too. We will provide you here with the shopping highlights in Venice.
Mestre Venice
The best place for some serious shopping is the Venetian suburb Mestre. Here you find the shopping centre Le Barche, with all kinds of shops. Whatever you are looking for, fashion, shoes, souvenirs, toys, jewels, you will find it here. Your children will have fun in the mini-train outside the shopping centre. But you can also go to the Piazza Ferreto, a big square with a lot of nice shops and restaurants. Mestre can offer you a nice day of shopping with the whole family.
Piazza San Marco Venice
Around the always crowed Piazza San Marco you can buy souvenirs in the countless souvenirs shops and market stands. Here you can buy some real Venetian masks. But also if you want to buy some new designers’ clothes just walk a bit around through the city centre and you will encounter some really nice fashion designer shops of Armani, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace and Prada. They are not concentrated in one street, like in most big cities, so you have to search a little bit.
Strada Nuova Venice
Strada Nuova is a nice street for budget shopping. The prices in the clothing stores you can find here are very affordable. But you can also find other shops here like decoration shops and food shops with fantastic Italian products. Are you looking for a nice cake shop; this is the place to be!
Rialto Market Venice
A nice way to discover the authentic ambiance of a city is to visit the traditional markets. The most famous market in Venice is for sure the Rialto market. This is the place where the locals go for their daily groceries. At the Rialto Market you can buy the best fruit, meat, cheese and pasta. Fresh fish you can buy at the nearby Campo della Pescaria.
Murano Venice
Venice is world famous for its typical Murano glassware. Everywhere in the city you can buy beautiful glassware items. But the best place to buy it, is of course at the Murano Island, 1,5 kilometers north of the city centre of Venice, where it originally comes from.
